WOMEN @ SI
Working Women's Forum (WWF) :
Silicon Interfaces, recognized in the industry as an organization of esteem, is deeply concerned about the welfare of the employees and the work atmosphere provided by the company in general. The Company believes in being an Equal Opportunity Employer on all considerations - gender, caste, religion, ethnic minority and/or physical disability.
The company management recognizes that many a times organizations are run based on Rules and Regulations enacted and drafted with a masculine point of view. From inception, Silicon Interfaces had many talented women employees who have contributed significantly to the growth of the company and being in the high technology service industry the company continues to have a high ratio of women employees and is likely to continue to maintain this in the foreseeable future.
Majority of the resources
and work force of the company originate from India. Keeping in mind that
certain social norms are prevalent in India which are particularly targetted
towards women making them somewhat disadvantaged, the women
workforce needs to be treated with additional sensitivity in the work-environment.
This Forum has been created to help the company management to adopt Rules,
Regulations and Policies those allow the women employees to successfully
build a long term career. The mandate of the company (reproduced below)
is to be maintained with reverence and all guidelines are to be made effective
to increase the productivity of the women employees of Silicon Interfaces

Flexi Work Time
Flexi-time allows employees to work for the same number of hours each week but their schedules are modified according to their convenience. At Silicon Interfaces we have relaxation in rules and regulations especially pertaining to flexi-time, based on our work culture and work-life balance.
Flexi-time concept has been adopted to enhance productivity and better work environments keeping in mind the cultural background as well as the life styles of women employees.
Women have certain social responsibilities. By making work hours flexi, like flexible starting and ending times and flexible core business hours, the women may avoid the peak load times on trains and be less stressed when arriving for work or going home from work. And it is even a means for providing family-friendly solutions for child-care, the sick in the family, and elder care which, is considered good in society. It even takes into account about taking care of homely chores, preparing dinner, etc.
We do understand that women are bounded by culture and social norms. In fact, India is a country with diverse cultures/religions and our women employees comes from different religions and cultures. Culture does have an impact on working life of women.
India is a complex maze of ceremonies, including religious, birth, wedding, anniversaries, death in the family, etc. and the women of the house are expected to be around making arrangements for these ceremonies. Women may even need to attend their children's schools for parent teacher meet, etc. Our flexi-time allows social and family obligations to co-exist with practical considerations by having various relaxed policies for women.
To make women grow in a demanding business environment, flexi-working hours help alleviate a number of gender-based inequalities like working late or overnight or on outstation/overseas assignments. But, through our relaxed policies the safety and security aspects of women employees are taken care of thereby maintaining a work-life balance.
Women Empowerment
It makes good business sense to have women in senior / top management positions, what is meant by "good business sense?" Good business sense means taking into consideration: knowledge pool; talent pool; improving corporate governance; attention to the bottom line, etc. This is not because women are better than men, smarter then men or because men are not competent leaders or vise versa. But rather, statistics has proven that when there are diverse perspectives and experiences within leadership structures, there is more robust thinking, problem solving and relationship building that becomes systemic - that is, occurring at all levels of an organization. Management structures can benefit from fostering creative, innovative solutions to problems.
Statistics reveal (according to a CII study of 149 companies in India), there is a healthy ratio: 16% of women managers in junior levels, 4% of senior managerial positions and 1% of the organizations have women CEOs. Though the statistics show less percent of women in higher positions and other levels, in comparison Silicon Interfaces has a good ratio approximately 5% women employees in senior management and 14% women employees range at different levels. Silicon Interfaces is looking forward of increasing the percent of women employees at different levels.
The ability to make decisions is a critical success factor. Often marginalized in decision-making, women have not been empowered to incorporate sound management decision-making. Reversing this trend would require a frontal attack from various sectors of our society.
Silicon Interfaces provides a platform to women in senior / top management positions to be a part of corporate decision-making process. Even the women who do not occupy management positions are made a part of decision-making, at some level, which affect them directly. Their ideas and perspectives are heard and even accepted & implemented, which is, likely in very few organizations.
To empower women to achieve unimagined possibilities and transformations through technology, leadership and economic prosperity, We
•
provide a platform of connections, resources and opportunities
•
transform corporate perceptions towards women
•
create a pipeline of women to fill leadership positions in the Company
•
demonstrate that advancing women directly contributes to the prosperity of all
